At Ashanti Hospice, we’re committed to providing hospice and palliative care that enables those with life-limiting illnesses or conditions the ability to make their journeys’ end their own.

While hospice is a way of compassionately caring for a person nearing life’s end, Ashanti Hospice is actually about living—living the very end of life with the highest quality possible. Our care focuses on the whole person—not just the illness—and centers on comfort.

Ashanti is the preferred hospice and palliative care

provider for all Sunset Communities residents.

Whenever possible, we work to uncover a patient’s long-held hopes and dreams, and we seek creative ways to help make those wishes reality. We follow the client’s lead to determine what is most appropriate and fulfilling, be it sharing a family meal together or supporting a beloved passion.

Surrounding the entire family with a network of caring individuals is central to the Ashanti program. Our team includes doctors, nurses, home health aides, social workers, a chaplain, counselors, and trained volunteers. We partner with clients’ families to deliver the most holistic care possible.

Each individual is unique, but common care elements made available to all include:

  • Expert medical care support
  • Pain management
  • Symptom control
  • Emotional and spiritual support
  • Home care supplies and equipment coordination
  • Medication management
  • Massage and aromatherapy
  • Additional professional consultation
  • Bereavement

Working with Ashanti Hospice and Palliative Care has been both rewarding and a joy. Being able to provide massage therapy services is a gift and a privilege. All the clients are unique, as are their needs. Working with the dedicated and loving staff at Ashanti—as a team—makes providing comfort and care to clients and their families so awesome. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

Kathleen Pollauf, LMTMassage Therapist

When I could no longer cope with my wife’s reluctance to eat or drink, her doctor advised hospice care. We chose Ashanti Hospice, and I was not disappointed. The staff was very patient in attempting to get her to eat and drink. A recliner was brought in so I could sleep next to her bed the last two days.

The staff went above and beyond to make sure Dave’s final days were memorable—bringing in food from our favorite restaurant and, one day, surprising us with a car ride to get some fresh air and ice cream. Because of their support and care, Dave was able to stay at home with our family and our beloved dogs.

When is Hospice Appropriate?

Ashanti Hospice services can be beneficial long before life’s end is imminent. To qualify for hospice, an individual must have a terminal diagnosis with a prognosis of six months or less. The individual and his or her family must agree that they are seeking comfort measures. Hospice services can be provided beyond six months as long as a physician recertifies that the individual is terminally ill. Choosing Ashanti Hospice earlier—rather than at the very end of life—provides families with access to a wider range of helpful services.

Where Does Ashanti Hospice Serve?

Ashanti Hospice provides hospice and palliative care at home, in long-term care centers, in nursing homes, in assisted living communities, or in hospitals. We offer long-term care (LTC) facilities the benefit of our extensive knowledge regarding end-of-life issues and comprehensive hospice care services for terminally ill patients. We help LTC facilities provide care to those residents who choose to stay in the facility rather than transfer to an inpatient hospice facility. We are licensed in Lucas, Wood, and Fulton Counties.
