Embracing transitions of life's journey

What is Ashanti Hospice?

Every person deserves to live out their life in comfort, surrounded by those who love them and those they love.  This is especially important as we near the end of our journey here on earth.

The Ashanti Hospice team is committed to providing a complement of services and care that will enable each person with a life-limiting illness or condition the ability to make their journey’s end their own.  Whenever possible, the Ashanti Team will help to uncover long-held hopes and dreams and seek creative ways to help grow them to reality.  Wishes can be as simple as sharing a family meal together, or supporting a beloved passion.  The team follows the lead of the client to determine what is most appropriate and fulfilling.

Ashanti Hospice is a compassionate way of caring for a person nearing the end of life. Although a person is experiencing the end of life transition, hospice is more about living – living the very end of life’s journey with the highest quality of life possible. Care focuses on the whole person, not just the illness, and centers on comfort versus cure.  It is care for both the dying person and their family – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Surrounding the entire family with a network of caring individuals is central to the Ashanti program. The team is comprised of doctors, nurses, home health aides, social workers, chaplains, counselors and trained volunteers.  Both the family and the team come together as care partners to deliver the most holistic care possible.

Each individual is unique, but common care elements made available to all include:

• expert medical care support

• pain management

• symptom control

• emotional and spiritual support

• bereavement

• homecare supplies and equipment coordination

• medication management

• massage and aromatherapy

• additional professional consultation

When is Hospice Appropriate?
Ashanti Hospice services can be beneficial long before the end of life is imminent. An individual must have a terminal diagnosis with a prognosis of six months or less. And an individual and their family must agree that they are seeking comfort measures.  An individual may receive hospice services beyond six months, provided the physician re-certifies that the individual is still terminally ill.
